GO ULTRA
64 km 3060+
GO ULTRA – 64 km Mountain Trail with 3060 m Elevation Gain
The GO ULTRA race starts at the Kayak Center in Solkan, right by the Soča River. The first few kilometers follow the Soča Trail, running under bridges and through the picturesque valley of the Soča River. The course then ascends on an asphalt road towards Solkan, where it quickly transitions into a gravel and forest trail.
Ascent to Škabrijel (646 m)
After the first kilometer, runners begin a long ascent to Škabrijel, following forest paths and fortified military trails from World War I. Halfway up the climb, they reach the first water station at a public fountain. The trail then turns right onto a gravel road, which gradually steepens into a rocky path. Runners reach the summit of Škabrijel (646 m) at the cross. A fast and technical descent follows on narrow trails, leading to Prevala (first aid station), where the course crosses the Nova Gorica–Lokve road.
Ascent to Sveta Gora (681 m)
After crossing the road, runners begin the climb to Sveta Gora. The ascent starts on an asphalt section, then transitions into an MTB cycling trail leading to the Belvedere aid station, which offers stunning panoramic views of the valley. After a short flat section, runners enter a 280-meter-long war tunnel from World War I, where a headlamp is mandatory due to complete darkness and uneven terrain. Exiting the tunnel, a steep climb follows on the northern side leading to the Statue of St. Francis, followed by a gentler ridge run to the basilica at Sveta Gora.
Traverse towards Gomila and Kuk
After descending via the stairs, runners cross the parking lot and continue towards Vodice, entering a forest path towards Grgar. The trail passes through Grgar village, then ascends to Grgarske Ravne, where the terrain opens up into a gravel road. The course continues towards Zabrdo, where the climb to Gomila Hill begins. At the summit, runners turn left, continuing towards Sv. Lovrenc, from where the trail descends towards the village of Bate. From Bate, the course heads towards Dragovica, followed by a long and demanding ascent to Jelenk Hill. The trail then continues towards the summit of Kuk, one of the highest points of the course. Here, runners will experience diverse terrain and breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
A technically demanding descent follows towards Paljevo, where runners pick up speed heading towards Plave. The route crosses the main state road, then continues over a bridge across the Soča River to the aid station in Prelesje.
Ascent to Sabotin (609 m) and the Ridge Trail
After the aid station, the course continues towards Prelesje near Plave, passing by the cemetery before starting the ascent along the Sabotin ridge. The trail passes through artillery tunnels from World War I, adding historical significance and a unique experience to the race. At the summit of Sabotin, runners reach the final aid station at the Peace Park, where they can refuel before the final section of the course.
Final Section and Crossing the Soča River
After crossing the ridge, a technical descent on narrow rocky trails leads into the valley. The route then crosses the bypass road and enters Italian territory, leading towards Slovenia’s longest suspension bridge. Crossing the bridge over the Soča River adds a unique and thrilling experience to the race. Once across, only a few hundred meters remain to the finish line in Solkan.
